MT Sobek: Utah National Parks Hiking

Day 1 Hike in Gorgeous Colorado National Monument & Drive to Moab, UT
1.5-hour private van transfer
3-4 hours/3-4 miles hiking with 300' elevation gain
This morning your adventure begins when your guides pick you and your fellow adventurers up from your pre-trip hotel in Grand Junction, Colorado. After an orientation meeting, wake up your travel legs with a series of short hikes in Colorado National Monument, a massive plateau of towering rock formations and sheer canyons. Enjoy a picnic lunch and an opportunity to learn at the visitor's center. In the afternoon, drive a spectacular scenic route to Moab, tracing the Colorado River and passing soaring Fisher Towers before arriving in Moab, Utah—your home for the next three nights. Tonight's welcome dinner is at a local favorite!

Day 2 Hike Amid the Iconic Spans of Arches National Park

Meet your MT Sobek guide ready for a full day of exploring the magnificent stone arches and giant balanced rocks of Arches National Park. Home to more than 2,000 natural arches, one is so famous that it graces nearly every travel brochure and license plate for the state of Utah. Today, hike to Delicate Arch and some of the other amazing arches in the park including Landscape Arch which spans an impressive 306 feet! To get up close, you'll pass through silvery desert scrub where dirt trails shift to slickrock, all the while surrounded by the geological wonders of Arches National Park. Return to Moab and savor a leisurely dinner.

Day 3 Visit Newspaper Rock & Hike the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park

Begin your day with a stop at Newspaper Rock, an incredible display of ancient Native American pictographs and petroglyphs, some dating back 2,000 years. Etched by Fremont, Ute, and Anasazi people, this is one of the largest collections of petroglyphs on Earth. Next, travel to the remote Needles District in Canyonlands National Park, where incredible sandstone spires tower up into the sky. Hike sandy trails and scramble over slickrock benches to panoramic vistas of these colorful monoliths in a less-visited corner of the park. Tonight enjoy some relaxation or explore Moab's dining options on your own.

Day 4 Explore Canyonland’s Islands in the Sky & Stargaze at Capitol Reef

Depart Moab for Canyonlands National Park, this time heading to the Islands in the Sky District, to see glorious Mesa Arch, framing sweeping sandstone landscapes. Continue past towering rock walls and ancient pictographs, reaching a crescendo at Grand View Point, where the canyons stretch endlessly towards the Needles distant mountains beyond! Enjoy lunch at a local eatery in Green River on the way to the Capitol Reef National Park. After dinner, discover why this park is a certified International Dark Sky Park where low humidity and dark night skies make it the perfect location for viewing the Milky Way Galaxy, millions of stars, recognizable constellations, and even some far-off galaxies millions of light years away.

Day 5 Hike Cohab Canyon & Grand Wash in Capitol Reef National Park

This morning, set off on a journey into remote and rugged Capitol Reef National Park. With fewer visitors than other Utah national parks, Capitol Reef offers hikers not only dramatic desert scenery, but also serenity and solitude. Experience its marvels as you follow expert guides on a day hike along two trails. Grand Wash Trail passes through deep canyons and narrows with red rock on either side. Waterpocket Fold is a 100-mile-long wrinkle in the Earth's crust, creating a dramatic landscape and geological wonderland—you'll hike along the upper section of it today. Enjoying dinner together is the perfect way to end a day filled with adventures and astounding landscape diversity.

Day 6 Enjoy a Morning Hike in Bryce Canyon National Park & Head to Zion

Get an early start on a scenic drive to Bryce Canyon National Park. Words cannot describe the sweeping views from the rim of Bryce's amphitheater, the starting point for the hike along the rim trail to Sunset Point. Descend into this wild land of rock, through a surreal maze of pink hoodoos, spires, and rock windows. After exploring this otherworldly landscape, continue to Zion National Park with its epic trails and narrow slot canyons.

Day 7 Hike the Virgin River Narrows in Zion National Park
5-7 hours/5-6 miles hiking - in/out of water all day (gear provided)
Get ready for a fun, full day bottom-up trek in the iconic Narrows of Zion National Park. On this spectacular slot canyon hike, you will walk along the banks and in the Virgin River to the narrowest section of Zion Canyon. Your feet will get wet and you'll be walking over river rocks, so be sure to bring proper footwear. Hike and splash your way upstream between walls thousands of feet tall, pausing to take in this celebrated experience. Relax by the riverside while you enjoy a picnic lunch in the afternoon. This evening, celebrate your journey with a farewell dinner in Springdale.
